FESTIVALS

Bringing a River's Story to the Surface

Sabagreia Fishing Festival

Preserving the bond between the Sabagreia people and the waters that shaped them, beyond a fishing competition.

The Ask

Go beyond covering a fishing competition. Capture why this Bayelsa tradition still matters, and preserve the bond between the Sabagreia people and the waters that shaped them.

The Story

Set in the riverine heart of Bayelsa, Sabagreia is community, survival and inheritance in motion. KAVITAH followed the anticipation, the craft and the pride, asking one question of every frame: what does this tradition mean to the people who live it?

The Craft

Observational documentary photography paired with intentional composition (boats in motion, hands at work, generations side by side), building a full cultural archive, not a highlight reel.

The Impact

A visual archive of Sabagreia's traditions for the community, and a first introduction to Bayelsa's cultural richness for audiences far beyond the river.
