Where History Returns Home and Culture Takes the Streets

Lagos Fanti Festival

Documenting Lagos' Fanti Carnival: Afro-Brazilian heritage alive through music, costume and procession.

The Ask

Document a cultural celebration whose significance extends far beyond the spectacle, to preserve the history, community and identity behind Lagos' Fanti heritage.

The Story

The Lagos Fanti Carnival is rooted in the history of Afro-Brazilian returnee communities in Lagos. KAVITAH captured that history into the streets through music, costume, procession and community pageantry.

The Craft

Capturing the people, performances, streets, rituals and collective energy that make the carnival a living piece of Lagos history.

The Impact

Created a visual cultural archive that moves beyond event coverage, helping preserve and communicate an important Afro-Brazilian chapter of Lagos' identity for contemporary audiences.
